Last week I participated in the
5K race for life. Cancer Research
UK’s Race for Life is a series of women-only events raising money for research
into all 200 types of cancer. It was the first time I participating and it was
great!
Since I am not a runner or jogger I just walked, with you can do in the 5K.
The event was extremely well organized, the overall feeling is great: random
group of people who get together for a good cause - beat the hell out of cancer by
raising as much money as possible to fuel research. This event happens all around the UK and it comes in different flavours: 5K, 10K, half marathon etc. It does not matter if you, like me, are in top fit, the important thing is to participate.
Along with your number-sticker they give you a card where you can write the name of those you are running for. Mine had my mum’s name who unfortunately lost the fight against this ugly disease a couple of years ago.
Additionally, I decided to make a t-shirt for the occasion. As it’s a ladies
event you should wear pink. I had a pink t-shirt at home and decided to write m
e
(Portuguese for mother) in sequins. I bought some fabric glue (in the picture)
and applied a string of pink sequins I had at home. Work quite well, I did not lose
any sequin during the race!
They were some neat outfits on the day of the race, pink angels, etc. I
think, by far, my favorite was a pink-nun dress!
