Hello,
As you know I love to knit however I started this hobby quite late. When I was doing my PhD, one of my colleagues, who was/is really good at knitting, decided to teach all the ladies in the group to knit. That was 5 years (OMG! time flies) and I haven’t stopped since. She used only KnitPro wood Knitting needles (picture) and so do I.
They are a bit more expensive than
others but definitely worthwhile. I love how they feel when I am knitting (personally
I hate the clicking sound the metallic ones make) and they are quite resistant.
Up to date, I only broke two (2,5mm that I used for making socks) and that was
because I was using a too thick yarn for the needles (I am still a rookie). I
also love the fact that they can be interchangeable, I have 4 cables length (my
last acquisition was a 2 m long that I used for the blanket I posted previously)
and I just swap them around as I see fit. You can generally find KnitPro
products in any yarn shop (I have found them both in Sweden and here in the UK)
but you can also buy it from amazon (I bought my 2m cable from there).
Another
“tool” I use a lot is the book “KNITTING WORKSHOPS” from the editors of knit simple
magazine.
I found this book through the craft blog “Saidos da Concha” (which I love and follow regularly!) and I find the patterns and tips within quite useful especially if you’re a novice in knitting. I have use the sock pattern (pic) extensively (see sample pic) but I find the hat patterns also nice.
The book also includes patterns for baby jacket, socks; woman and kid’s pullover, pillows etc. Most importantly, I find the instructions quite easy to follow and they also include a glossary which I use a lot since I am still not completely au pair with the abbreviations often used knitting patterns.
My next project will be a pair of
fluffy sleeping socks. I use them a lot during Winter as I cannot sleep with
cold feet… I have same leftover yarn (pic) that I will combine, somehow.
Have a lovely day
