The Mindful project days # 228-243

The Mindful project day #228

Enjoying doing things for my baby.

Today I started on a cover for the crib. I was a bit unsure but it turned out OK.

This beautiful cotton fabric was a gift from my mother-in-law. She did two crib-sheets with it and gave me the left-overs.

And this is the final result:

The Mindful project days #229-232

Very grateful for the weekend holiday we took.

This Friday we left for Belgium with our friends M&A, for a short 4 days holiday. We rented a standing caravan for 4 people (it actually had space for a child if needed) in the Petite Suisse camping-park. The view was breath taking as you can see in the pic., the weather surprisingly good as the forecasts we had seen predicted tonnes of rain and no sunshine, the company was great and we were able to barbecue most of the days!

 View from the caravan

On the second day we went canoeing in the city of La Roche-en Ardenne. I have to admit I was a bit afraid because the first time I tried it I almost drown (not a joke...) but this time it went spectacularly well. My husband was very good at giving directions and we worked very well as a team.

On the left us and on the right M&A

La Roche-en Ardenne is beautiful and I highly recommend you visit if you have a chance. Most of the people in public services will speak Dutch, French and with a bit more difficulty English. It has a tourist office in the middle of the city with several activity options plus there are camping sites in the outskirts of the city.

  La Roche-en-Ardenne
 Beautiful sculpture garden

 Check the ruins of La Roche's castle on the top

We also enjoyed some hiking on days 3 and 4 around our camping park and in La Roche.

It was a very nice way of doing a low-cost holiday. Dutch people love camping and I am starting to see the benefits!!

The Mindful project day #233

Rainbows! Who doesn't like them!

The Mindful project day #234

Baby thrifty treasures!

Today I found this cute jacket, size 56 (second smallest size according to Dutch baby sizes) for...1 euro and it looks pretty much new!

So cute!!

This is what I got from Kruidvat:
- 1 pack of 20 newborn diapers from there own brand;
- 1 full size bottle of bath foam also from their brand;
- teeth biter!!?? don't know how to call it!? For when their teeth start coming out;
- A shopping bag;

The wicker basket was another thrift treasure I got for 1.50 euro!! The basket is really good quality, I washed it with a salt-solution (just dissolved some salt on boiling water and used that to scrub the basket with a brush) and left it to dry in the sun, which obvious took some time here as the Sun doesn't show up that often in the Netherlands ...

The Mindful project day #235

I have embraced my coffee addiction!

In Portugal I used to drink 4, 5 sometimes 6 expressos a day, not joking! When I went to Sweden that all changed as first they have a very weak coffee (you should have seen my face the first time I tried it, even their expresso is weak!!!) second due to my stress levels. When we first started talking about having a baby, of course my coffee addition was a concerned so I gradually reduce my coffee consummation until two a day, in the morning and after lunch. Since I am unemployed I have cut down to just one, my morning coffee. When we had our first appointment with the midwife I told her I was still drinking one coffee a day and she said that that was OK, I could have until 5...of course she did not meant 5 expressos but it came as a surprise to me. Nevertheless, I kept to my one coffee/day. This week I tried to have decaf during my morning coffee...it went bad, it went dark...never again!!!!

I love coffee and I am never going to change...

The Mindful project day #236

Our little family or as the Dutch would say "ons kleine gezin".

The Mindful project day #237

Very grateful to received the baby crib and dresser (for the baby's dressing cushion) from my parents-in-law. With so many things needed for the baby, I am very thankful for all the hand-me downs.

My mother-in-law made the white cover. Very happy with the final result.

The crib belonged to my mother-in-law's family, she slept in there as a baby!!! and the dresser they had it hanging around as my mother-in-law is a house-mum (here it means a nanny that takes care f other people's babies/kids but in her own house).

The Mindful project day #238

Mangos!!

My husband brought a bunch of mango from work and besides eating the fruit we also made same mango smoothie, delish!!

Look at that healthy colour!

The Mindful project day #239

Preparing for our peanut's arrival!!

Most of the item you see here came from the free baby-boxes I have been talking about. On the bottom left shelf are maternity-kit items. In my The Mindful project day #170, I show a list of items necessary for the mother during/after the birth (according to my midwifery) - the maternity kit. Our insurance actually provides that for us and to my surprise, according to what I heard from other pregnant fellows that is not always the case with the insurance companies. So, if you are in the Netherlands, know that the insurance company IAK provides the maternity kit plus a few items for the baby like shampoo, bath foam, bath oil, etc.

Is this strawberry giving me the finger????!!!

LOL!!

The Mindful project day #241

I am grateful to have celebrated my first kings day in such a nice way!

In the morning we went to the vrijmarkt (free market) where anybody, including children, can sell their pre-loved items. Lots of great items like children books, games, clothes, etc., I didn't buy anything but next year when peanut is bigger, I will definitely have a better look at it. At some point  rain started pouring down and we took cover in a cosy coffee place in the company of a chocolate brownie and chocolate cake with caramel topping!!

In the afternoon we met with our pregnancy group and had a really great time. Not just baby talk, we also got to know each other a bit better.

So decadent!!

The Mindful project day #242

Enjoying washing, ironing and organizing all our baby clothes...in good company ;)!

Dresser update!

The Mindful project day #243

I think I have a transspecies animal, she's a dog trapped in a cat's body!!!

She chases her tail,  her meows sometimes sound like barking and if we let her, drinks water from the toilet!

PS: its a joke, I mean no offence to anybody.

The Mindful project day #244

My favourite outfit these days: a basic stretchy dress from H&M and my maternity leggings. Love the way it shows my bump!

28 weeks

That is it for today! As I have more time now, I will try to do one post per day, easier to read and for me to write!

Have a lovely weekend!

The Mindful project days #211-227

Hi again,

The Mindful project day #211

Boots!! Love boots, they are my favourite shoe wear!

I own just 3 pairs but in my opinion, they are staple boots: one pair of short black boots; a pair of medium-long swede for the winter and my favourite, this pair of long leather boots (see pic).

I bought them in Sweden 5 or 6 years ago...pause for reaction as I am guessing some of you are thinking "OMG that's too long for shoes" but I don't care, I love them! They were pricy but so worth the money! They go well with so many different outfits, dresses, skirts, under or over jeans. In my opinion, and I guess that's what makes a fashion-piece a staple, they are always in fashion.

I couldn't agree more with Vivienne Westwood when she said:

Leather needs care, so often the boots need polish. I notice that I have problems storing them in my shoerack as they tend to bend and after some time get "bending marks" (see pic below)

I came across a blog or vlog, don't remember anymore were they recommend using a pool noodle inside each boot to keep them straight (like the ones on the pic below). I haven't found them but I did find other solutions like a empty role of kitchen paper, piece of card board and an empty egg container..

definitely not as neat as the pool noodle but as efficient!

The Mindful project day #212

My husband's optimism!

He balances me out as I am less positive by nature...

The Mindful project day #213

The Modern family TV-series!!!!

I had  seen, briefly, same scenes of this TV series but  honestly didn't really understood all the fuss around it. Here in the Netherlands they are running the first season and I got hooked!!! I love it! I think its because its a funny series about a family that even with all the craziness, has a lot of love and support for each other. My favourite is Cam!! His so funny!

The Mindful project day #214

Lets be grateful to be who we are, to be alive and to have came this far in life!

The word "beauty" can be so easily replaced by "success", "strength", "shine", etc.

The Mindful project day #215

Feeling inspired for new projects!

The Mindful project day #216

Getting closer to a dream!

I never had a house of my own and neither did my parent. We have always lived in a renting house own by my aunt and uncle. This has always been a issue of worry, special for my mum, as my uncles never declared it as a rental house so even though we paid a monthly rent, we have no receipts or papers proving we were tenants. There is more to this story but lets leave it here. Hence for me is extremely important to get my own house and believe it or not, all savings I made/make have that goal in mind. Given our work situation which implied from country to country buy a house was not yet an option until now...

We still have a long way to go until we finally buy a house, I have to get a job, my husband has get a more stable working situation and etc. however, we are finally starting to look at houses. Today it was "open house day" so we could go around and see the inside of different houses without any appointment or commitment. Even thought its still a dream, today I feel a lit bit closer to living it and I am very grateful for that...

The Mindful project day #217

Hearing my baby's heartbeat!

It was not the first time we heard our baby's heartbeat so let me explain. During our 20-week scan everything was normal and we were told that my placenta is anterior, in the front, which means it takes longer to feel the baby move. My midwife said that I would probably, only start feeling the baby in 2-3 more weeks as opposed to my fellow-pregnant from the course which are already feeling the baby move, kick and hiccup. I was fine with these observation, as it made sense to me however, today is the last day of my 24th week and I still haven't felt the baby... so we started to feel concerned and decided to contact our midwife a check the baby's heartbeat. Hence, I m very grateful to hear that his heartbeat is normal.

The Mindful project day #218

Finally felling my baby kick!! It was a one time thing but it happen!!

Unexpected encounters!
So close and yet so far!

This white pigeon has been taunting Flor for days!

The Mindful project day #221

Grateful for that smell of vacation I am feeling in the air!

Stay tune for updates!!

The Mindful project day #222

Daring to do new things!

My mother-in-law has made two top sheets for our baby (for the crib) however, I wanted an extra one. I have been postponing doing the bedsheet as I wanted to use a lace/crochet applique that I found in my mum's stuff (she passed away 10 years ago) and I had never done this.
In the end it was not complicated, I used a cotton white fabric, leftover from the living-room curtains (http://likecherrieslove.blogspot.com/2015/10/the-mindful-project-days-40-44.html) and I am very satisfy with the result!

Pad on my back!! Good girl!

The Mindful project day #223

Trying new recipes!

I love to see cooking programmes such as Masterchef, My Kitchen rules, etc. and even though a lot of times I am think "that looks delicious, I so want to eat that right now" the truth is I am not always in the mood to try new recipes. Nevertheless, today I tried to do a quiche (I know its not gourmet food as the one you see in the cooking programmes but its something I never did!) and it actually turn out delicious and it was so simple to do.

 -Take any combination of veggies of your choice. I used 3 small orange paprika, 15 cherry-tomatoes, a bunch of olives and a small bunch of broccoli. hopped them up an d mix them;
-add 6 eggs;
-add salt, pepper, coriander powder (and whatever spice you think will works);
-mix everything together and place it in a high pie shape (ours has 15 cm diameter; 10 cm high) previous covered with pastry dough for quiches;
-Place it in a pre-heated oven (200C) and cook it for at least 30 min; the time will depend on your oven and on the amount of veggies you add as they will bring a lot of moist;

Approved!!

The Mindful project day #224

Giving into temptation with no guilt!

Yes I did and they are delicious!

Chocolate madeleines with a raspberry inside and cream-cheese frosting, Yumm!

The Mindful project day #225

When the start of the week feels like a new opportunity to tackle life's challenges!

The Mindful project day #226

Definitely feeling my baby move!!!!!!

Specially after a meal, I am feeling the baby move and sometimes that reflects on the shape of my belly either it looks asymmetric or as today, there is a small bump close to my bellybutton. I don't think I will ever see the outline of a foot as the pic above but wouldn't that be cool!!

The Mindful project day #227

Grateful for being selected to participate in a test panel for the Bepanthen stretch marks cream!

I use the "normal" Bepanthen in my hands when they are very dry or to help heal a wound faster (the scratches that I get from playing with Flor) with little to no scaring and lately, on my lips either to hydrate or as a lip primer before putting lipstick. As I mentioned in a previous post I don't believe any cream will miraculously prevent or remove (as some claim) stretch marks but I am curious to see how my skin will look after using this new cream they have.
