The Mindful project day#34 (Friday 2 of October)
An unexpected date with my husband!
Friday was not a so great day for me. So after arriving from work, my husband suggested a walk through town (Awesome husband!!).
We ended at a little pub where we each had a nice Belgium beer (me a dark Kasteel and my man a LaChouffe) and chatted up a bit. It really made my night!

To know that people can still trust each other!
Yesterday we had an amazing day as we went on a taste tour around Ede/Wageningen with our good friends M&A.
The tour pamphlet we follow this Saturday, there are four more
The idea is that you go on bike tours around different areas of Ede/Wageningen (pic.). Each tour has several points of interest. Each stopping-point is usually associated with a farm/farmers collective and a shop where you can interact with the producers and get same local, biological or organic products. The tour also highlights locations with historical meaning and/or where you can engage in others activity such as hiking.
This Saturday our goal was to enjoy the landscape which is amazing and get to know local farms and their products.
Very friendly pigs at our third stop, De Hooilanden, where we bought same cheese and chorizo and had the vender show us around
Beautiful green meadow
At some of the stops there is no shop, the products are laydown by the front entrance of the farm/house with a box for the money and people trust that you will pay for what you take. I think its very important to know that one can still believe in the good side of people.
A while back, I read a newspaper article where they mention that countries with a good social-economic situation usually display a high level of trust among people and between the society and the government/social institutions. Having lived in Sweden, I can vouch for that. Not only people are very honest with each other, they feel secure and trust that if something less good happens they will be taken care off. For example, as a PhD student you are also entitled to an unemployment-fund if necessary which does not happen in Portugal or the UK.
Pumpkin stand outside a farmer's house where I bought 3 little pumpkins for more fall decorations!!!
We bought a few things, here are some of them (pic.)
From the left: Rye bread, biological pancake mix (can't wait to try it), advocaat (dutch eggnog), honey, milk (from Het Binnenveld the local champion of meat cows; here we also bough hamburgers and the honey so the owner was so kind as to give us (and M&A) a free 1L of milk) and my little pumpkins!!
If you live in the Netherlands, love cycling, like supporting local and good quality products this is something for you. Each tour-pamphlet is between 1,50 and 1,75 euros and usually comes with discount coupons you can use in the different shops (including one discount for tea/coffee and delicious apple-pie 2,50 euros). You can also visit the website: http://proefwageningen.nl/. The only drawback is that the pamphlet is in Dutch however, at the shops, there is no problem speaking in English.
